To enhance the resilience and sustainability of port infrastructure and hinterland transport. By bringing together a multidisciplinary team including major European ports (Rotterdam, Antwerp/Brugge Antwerp-Bruges, Hamburg and Constanta), CLARION aims to leverage their expertise to address key challenges in the maritime industry. The project will conduct 10 pilot demonstrations to test and deploy innovative solutions such as smart and sustainable quay walls, corrosion monitoring systems and flood impact control. Additionally, it will explore the reuse of dredged sediment, the applicability of nature-based solutions, and the use of digital twins for extreme weather forecasting and infrastructure resilience, including IWT for hinterland resilience. One of the expected impacts is to increase the modal shift of port hinterland connections toward zero and low-emission transport systems such as IWT. The results will be shared among the ports and with international stakeholders, promoting collaboration and the adoption of best practices in climate resilience.
