Waterborne federated systems and models for secure and resilient operations
WARRANT is a Horizon Europe Research & Innovation Action that develops a unified methodology and digital platform to enhance the safety, resilience, and cybersecurity of Waterborne Digital Systems (WDS). The project addresses the challenges of modern maritime digitalisation by combining AI - enabled risk analysis, federated data spaces, and real - world validation through four Living Labs. WARRANT supports smarter, greener, and safer shipping aligned with European policy goals. The WARRANT project aims to improve the safety, security and resilience of waterborne digital systems and digitalised ship operations. It addresses growing challenges related to complex system integration, operational hazards and cybersecurity risks. The project develops an integrated approach combining hazard and risk management, human factors and cybersecurity across ship subsystems and their interaction with infrastructure. Using Digital Twin technologies and Knowledge Graphs, WARRANT enables continuous monitoring, fault simulation and predictive maintenance. The approach is validated through four Living Labs focusing on containership systems (DANAOS), smart containers (AELER), autonomous inland vessels (DST) and remote operations (SEAFAR). WARRANT also supports industry uptake by providing tools and a knowledge platform to facilitate secure data sharing and standardisation, contributing to safe, autonomous and resilient waterborne transport.
